- select an agent who supports the method of selling best suited to your property and your situation
- interview as many agents as necessary until you find one that you feel comfortable with
- look for traits such as enthusiasm, empathy, perseverance, extensive knowledge, and a firm commitment to the business in your Agent
- but be careful to avoid someone who is just flattering you
- ask the agent what is their strategy for achieving the highest possible price
- be careful of 'over the top' presentations: make sure you find out exactly how your property marketing campaign will be run
- don't consider an agent who avoids the 'price issue' with comments such as "it depends on the market"
- at market value, you open your home up to more people who can afford the price, so don’t list your property at a higher price without good reason
- make a good first impression of your home, both in the interior and exterior
- request references, be they verbal or written: you need to confirm the character and ability of the agent you are considering for evidence of happy past clients
- make sure the agent you interview and select is the one who will personally handle the sale, all the way through
- ask the agent for their home telephone number or a 24 hour number
