Excellent schooling is available in Yeppoon with two private Catholic boarding /day schools as well as two major state primary schools and the state secondary school. For those wanting more, regular express coach service ferry students to and from Rockhampton Grammar, Girls Grammar, Heights College, Cathedral College and the Central Queensland University several times daily.
The shopping and business services sector are well developed, with the township being serviced by Bi-Lo and two other large independent stores and another 6500m2 centre is on the drawing boards for completion in 2006/7. This will include a major national retailer alongside 20 specialty stores close to the town centre.

Livingstone Shire has a population of over 26,000 people. The latest Census backed the recent KPMG Peat Marwick findings, identifying the Shire as one of the fastest growing Shires in Queensland. With a consistent growth rate of 2.6% over the past 20 years, at it's current rate of growth the Livingstone Shire and in particular the Capricorn Coast is expected to be home to 35,000 people by 2011 and 47,000 people by 2026.
