About the Area

The Capricorn Coast is one of the fastest growing areas in regional Queensland (as identified by KPMG Peat Marwick), and is situated at the gateway to the resources boom - the south and north Bowen basins. Enjoying unprecedented economic activity, Yeppoon is rapidly becoming the area of choice for people from all over Australia.

A range of exciting beachfront and seaview developments, to rival the standards set by the South East Corner of Queensland and the Sunshine Coast, have now been approved by Council and will be well and truly underway during 2006.

Seductively quiet on arrival, Yeppoon is the Coast's major town which has retained its village style appeal yet offers a variety of wonderful restaurants, accommodation and shops. Well serviced by a number of both public and private schools, a thriving sports calendar across almost any sport imaginable, a strong cultural events calendar and pristine coastline from Stanage Bay in the north to the Fitzroy River in the south, the Capricorn Coast is perfect for everyone.

The Coast and its Keppel Group of Island boasts safe swimming waters all year and spectacular geographical diversity. Contrasts range from rainforest to reef, outback to wetlands, camping islands to mainland parabolic sand dunes. Just north of Yeppoon is Australia's largest resort, Rydges Capricorn Resort. Set on 22,000 acres of nature, it offers two world standard golf courses, wetlands (said to rival Kakadu), conference centre, wedding chapel, three restaurants and overlooks a 20km beach. Farnborough beach heads north to the popular fishing and Barramundi breeding area of Corio Bay, the catchment of the fresh waters from the rainforest creeks of Byfield National Park

For those travelling by sea to the Capricorn Coast, visitors are welcomed by the largest Marina in northern Australia, situated between Yeppoon and Emu Park and only 10 nautical miles from 18 beautiful islands in the Keppel Group.

The Capricorn Coast is easily accessible by road, coach and air and is situated 38km north east of Rockhampton. Regular coach connections to the coast are from the Rockhampton Airport and Major Bus Terminals.
